First off, you are more than likely wondering how lead even makes it into your child’s toys. Believe it or not, certain companies use lead in the paint and plastic that they use on your child’s toys. Lead can also be found on dishes and in houses. However, the dishes were banned from the United States in 1978 as were the paint for houses. However, there may still be toys your child has that contain lead. In many countries, the regulations of lead have not came into effects and these countries are still exporting products to the United States. In the countries where the rules have not came into effect, it is legal to use lead in the production of paint and plastic that is used on your child’s toys. The lead in the toys will be acting as a softener that is known for making the plastic more flexible than normal. These plastics are known for forming a lead dust and that is when it becomes a major health hazard for your children.
